Just wanted to update the review on D& L Bakery, still awesome!!!! We ordered rolls for a party and everyone commented on how great the rolls were, so much better then any other in the area!
Started going here 60 years ago when I was in grade school across the street. Still owned and operated by the Geles family. Very reasonably priced, old fashion, from scratch, incredibly tasty baked goods. I recommend taking their unique, one of a kind butter bar to parties. The family owned secret filling was created by Mr. Geles. Always a big hit and our family's favorite! They also make great presents! Traditional Polish Chrusciki always available. Pączki available for Pączki (Fat Tuesday) Day/Lent. Cross breads available for your Święconka (blessing of the Easter baskets).
The minute you step inside the aroma of baked goods surrounds you! Everything looks so delicious, it's hard to choose! Settled on a 2 lb loaf of rye bread hot out of the oven. Can't get any fresher than that! Of course part of the loaf never made it home! We also tried the pastry hearts that were so delicious and took me back to my childhood! Definitely will be back for bread and more pastries. Had my eye on the bear claws and turnovers!
I've been going to this bakery for many, many years. The butter bar danish is a MUST- the danish is baked soft with a sweet/ slightly crunchy center (no idea what this delicious filling is but you won't regret it) and a crumble on top. Plus it's only $7 which is a steal for something so delicious. Parking is either on the street in front of the building or there's a lot on the side of the building that fits roughly 4-5 cars. Credit cards are accepted over $10
This sweet little bakery in the heart of Lancaster makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. The prices are fantastic and the pastries are delicious. what more could you ask for? They're pastry hearts are fluffy and flaky with a thick vanilla frosting over the top. My favorite was something I think was called a "flip", similar to a turnover, this pastry is filled with almond paste and raspberry filling. I am so glad I live near D& L because when I want a treat or special dessert I will choose this bakery.
My son and I loved our visit! We have been hunting for donuts in WNY and D&L Bakery did not disappoint!!! I was excited to learn this bakery has been around for over 100 years! The donuts were delicious, they have an old school cake taste that is not found anywhere else! I loved the way they slice the "filled" donuts and put the white cream in the middle! There is a reason they have been around for over 100 years!! This hidden gem is worth the trip to find it!!! You wouldn't find this place if you weren't looking for it, it's not on a main road! I do wish they had seating though, we would have stayed and sat for awhile but there is nowhere to sit:-(
D & L, I wonder what it stands for. Down & Low? Like, keep it on the DL? Dave & Lustre? Daniel-day & Lewis? I'm clueless. Let's move on. The girl in here was nice and friendly, and helped me figure out which products to buy. I have to be honest though. Not to knock you if you love this stuff, and you may well. It's cheap and looks great. But I didn't really like the baked goods here. They weren't awful, and the people I shared them with at home (3 different people) thought they were great. I just wasn't particularly enthused. Maybe I'm really picky. But when it's this cheap and this cute and the service is nice, and did I mention the prices, wow... and when it makes the people at my house happy... I'm delighted to give it a 4 despite my own picky tastes.
Great place to pickup old world pastries... D&L bakery is a hidden gem and you wouldn't pass it unless you happened to be driving through the village of Depew. I stopped in for the first time on a Saturday afternoon and picked up a few treats to go. Prices were good considering the quality of the treats and size, and that there aren't too many bakeries that bake this style anymore. Next time I'll stop back here earlier in the day so there's more of a selection to choose from.

was amazing, spent the night at my grandmothers house and bought valentines day cookies for my girlfriend, the lady working there is so sweet and helpful, she checked the ingredients in the cookies and made sure there was no nuts in the cookies because my girlfriend is allergic.
